How To Disable Compressed Folder on XP

By default, Windows handles ZIP files like folders. This will show you how to turn on or off the ability for Windows Explorer to treat Compressed Folders like a normal folder and open and view it the same way (on), or like a file (off). For example, ZIP files show up under the folder tree (like folders) in Windows Explorer. Windows will look inside of the ZIP files when doing searches, causing it to take longer to finish the search sometimes. If you have another 3rd party ZIP program (WinZip, 7-Zip, etc.), then this can be an annoyance to you and you may want to turn this feature off.

Clink on Start -> Run and type :
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll (Return)
And you are finished.

The feature of compressed folder on XP might be a good feature in some cases. You don't need to open external software to open it. All you need is to click it and treat it like normal folder. You can do copy / paste and another folder works. While this is really good feature in Windows, it is certainly annoying in some specific condition.

For example, when you are doing searches. Windows will also search files within the zip file, which make the search time considerably longer. Another annoying thing is, when we want to do some operations on those search results, i.e. Deleting, Copying. Because some of the results are inside a zip file, it is not possible to do file operation with all of the search results.

In my opinion, this kind of feature from Windows is not as great as it supposed to be. The disadvantages is much bigger than the advantages. It is much better to turn it off.
